Chop Bar this year had many exciting and memorable moments: a dance off battle initiated by host and travel influencer Jessica Nabongo, live painting by Dunnie O, our “spice” t-shirt made waves in our Chop Shop marketplace, yummy bites from Chef Hiyaw, and of course our crafted cocktail, The DC Dawa, a crowd favorite! If you missed the event this year, you really missed out. But the good thing is that we are giving you a taste of Chop Bar with a complete recipe for the cocktail sensation - The DC Dawa.
The DC Dawa combines elements of DC with the beloved boozy Dawa cocktail that has roots in Uganda and Kenya. For starters, instead of Vodka (which can be found in the traditional Dawa cocktail) we used the current DC favorite liquor of choice, whiskey. This adds some depth and complexity to the cocktail. Using the same flavor profile as the Dawa Cocktail, we replaced the Dawa Stick (carved stick dipped in honey) with honey syrup. We also made brown sugar simple syrup to add a rich sweetness to the cocktail. And just like the traditional Dawa Cocktail, we balanced it out with fresh lime juice. Delicious!
2 Oz Whiskey

How to make the DC Dawa:
Combine brown sugar simple syrup, honey syrup and fresh lime juice in a tin
Add crushed ice and pour in your favorite brand of whiskey.

Serve and enjoy!
